The BirdSO Mini Invitational for Divisions B and C ran from December 11–18, 2021. Featuring nineteen official events and five trial events, the tournament took place in a virtual format where students competed from the comfort of their own homes. The tournament kicked off with an opening ceremony and concluded with an awards ceremony where we awarded medals for the top fifteen places and trophies for the top fifteen teams.
The Mini tournament was run in the mini SO format, described in the Rules Manual. Students competed from their homes and could not meet up in-person. In addition, our tournament was asynchronous; teams could participate in any of the events at any given 50-minute interval during the duration of the competition (December 11–18, 2021). Teams from the same school were encouraged to take tests at the same time to ensure academic integrity.
The event slate for the Mini Tournament featured nineteen official events and five trial events. Events tried to follow the official Rules Manual; however, some modifications were necessary to adapt to our virtual format. Competitors were encouraged to review sections of the Event Modifications documents relevant to their events prior to the tournament.
All competitors were expected to follow Science Olympiad rules (both event-specific and General Rules), our Academic Honesty Policy, and the additional general policies included below.
To maintain open communication with all coaches and competitors, all email updates to coaches were also included publicly in the "Email Updates" document linked below. For participant convenience, we also included a tournament timeline and "frequently asked questions" page about our tournaments.
Our tournaments would not have been possible without the generous support of our volunteer Event Supervisors. Learn more about the individuals who dedicated their time towards helping our tournament and making the event possible!
The Mini Tournament featured a virtual Opening Ceremony on December 10, 2021, at 5:00 PM Pacific Time to kickoff our exciting week of competition. After the competition concluded, we hosted a virtual Awards Ceremony on December 23, 2021, at 5:00 PM Pacific Time where we recognized the top finishers of both divisions in each event and overall. After the Awards Ceremony, medals and trophies were mailed to coaches, and graded tests were made available for study on Scilympiad.
Links to our ceremonies, which were broadcasted on our YouTube channel, were shared here ahead of each. We hope these archives will allow your teams to relive some of the excitement from these exciting events!
After the Awards Ceremony, results for the Mini Tournament were posted to Scilympiad and are linked below. The preliminary scores were finalized on January 6, 2022.
